First of all Do NOT USE POWERFLEX SUBFRAME BUSHINGS!!! They are not made properly and do not fit right. They will TEAR easily. It happened to me. There is a thread on this on E46 Fanatics.
Use AKG BLACK subframe bushings. They will work just fine.

The BEST and strongest way to reinforce the subframe is not the wimpy foam method that BMW does. it is good old fashioned welding. HPF makes a kit of PLATES that weld in. Turner makes a similar kit but it is inferior. Do not buy or use it.

I had Redline Performance and Redline Collision both work on my subframe reinforcement. It was very expensive but done as well or better than any place in the country. Every step was photographed. There is quite a bit of welding and then repainting/sealing so things wont rust. The steps are way too involved to discuss here. You can find step by step photo journals in some of the forums. You have to search. Use Google. its not THAT hard to find the information.

I have 800rwhp so I had Redline do additional welding/stitching. If you want a a straight plate weld in your job wont be as expensive as mine. Get them to quote you a firm price total before they start. I can say I think they are the best at this in the area.

EDIT: There is nothing WRONG with the the TMS plates. They work just fine. The HPF plates are more robust and much porefered by my tech when I showed him both sets., My never used TMS plates are for sale.
