Just constructive criticism here...but I turn a 1:30.2 (should be 1:29.xx) in a 350Z and I am no professional. We have a few C5/C6 Vettes here in NASA and they all turn between 1:25-1:27 in time trials. Actually the cars are for the most part stock, because of the rule allowances. They do run R compound tires. I don’t know what kind of HP you have in the car or more importantly what hp/wt but a C6 should easily be running into the 24’s with an average experienced driver, stock with R compound tires and coilovers. We have TTA cars, same class as Joe running in the 25’s. I would concentrate on driver improvement it is the best money being spent, get a hold of David he is very good and can really help you get the most out of the car. The single biggest upgrade you can make is the driver. Lastly, come out to NASA we have excellent instructors and many C5/C6’s running for you to talk and compare. There is a lot to learn, that is for sure. The fastest car yesterday was a C6Z06 with track setup, wing, coil overs and 525 rwhp doing 1.25's. My fastest lap was 1.30.1. (I have 375 rwhp and standard weight btw). Then we had a stock Grand Sport on about 1.32, an R8 doing 1.34. All happy amateurs of course, but still using R-tires.
I will take a drivers training next, just like you recommend. I will do it on PBIR since I have about 300 laps there now and can focus on the comments the most. It is important since my mind is pretty male, one thought at a time.. And Joseph, I agree with you - Sebring is my favorite track in Florida. Homestead is good, Daytona scary and PBIR close.. PeO. I couldn't help browsing for some more info on NASA Time Trials and the rules and found the following link for results just one week before.
http://www.nasa-tt.co... I also found a bunch of results from different events in http://www.nasaforums... Then some records in http://www.nasa-tt.co... I only see times down in the 1.25's on the track records. Most C6Z06's are in the 1.27-1.29 range. Am I looking in the wrong place? PeO. Edited by PeO Rydgren on Dec 13, 2010 4:50 PM |

Nope you are not looking in the wrong place. Most of those guys however are not pushing more than 360-380whp, if that. TTS is capped at a 9.25:1 adjusted weight/hp ratio. Just shows you that power is not everything. The newer Z06s are in TTR due their out of the box power. Harry Butler has a pretty powerful one in TTR but he isnt driving the car where it should be yet.

PeO,
When I looked at the TT times I had a hard time believing those as well. Those guys are fast! I agree 100% with both Joseph and Jim in that the best improvement money can buy is seat time and some solid coaching. Talk to David Tuaty (he's on here), he'll make you faster. Took off about 4 seconds at Homestead for me with ZERO additional mods done to the car. You'll also get better practice/experience at Homestead and Sebring. I was keeping up with you at Sebring, but not so sure I can anymore with all those upgrades done to your car. So, it's more coaching for me! ![]() |

I couldn't help browsing for some more info on NASA Time Trials and the rules and found the following link for results just one week before. The records are the ones you should look for ultimate goals, and compare cars with equal modifications as yours for a true gage. I will tell you, that this is the fastest group of drivers in the club level you will find down here and most of us nationally. But as Joe and Carlos said HP is the last thing you should be concerned about. If you look at the rules you will find that these cars running those times do not have many modifications at all, it will truly surprise you. You should learn to drive your car at its limit stock first before any upgrades. Then once you have done that, start making small upgrades; learn to drive it again at the limit and so on. As Carlos suggested get a hold of David Tuaty, he will help you more than any modification you can make. BTW, Joe, TTS and TTA are 8.7:1 Jim Platis performancetread.com |

I think I know David Tuaty. If I am right he held an auto cross day in Homestead that was very well arranged. He had two other drivers as coaches, but David seemed very professional and was fast around the track himself. We even got to do the final "exam" in his BMW 135i, to have a good comparison between drivers. I definitely will join more of his events.
A video from the event. I made the calculation of my car and it should be 8.73:1, so in TTA. But on the other hand, both TTA and TTS seems to be the classes with the best times so it doesn't really matter if the car gets upgraded or not. Looking at the results from the event two weeks ago, the majority of the guys (in TTA and TTS) are in the range of 1.27.2 to 1.28.6, with the winners in each class excluded. I think I need to pick up about a 1.5 seconds in my driving plus a set of Hoosier R6 tires, then I would be able to fit somewhere in the middle of the result table. Hmm. I perhaps just defined the goal for 2011? PeO. Edited by PeO Rydgren on Dec 14, 2010 1:50 PM |

Thanks for the correction Jimmy.
The rules for TTA are points based. You may have too many points to stay in TTA. TTS is only based on an adjusted weight/hp ratio that takes into account drive configuation (FWD, RWD, AWD), Sedan vs Coupe, and tire width, among a few other things. TTA and TTS happen to share the same weight/hp limit of 8.7. I also use the TT records as a goal because it shows me where I am. We are fortunate here in the NASA Florida region to have many fast drivers that give the rest of us something to chase. It makes me confident in making a trip to National Championships next year knowing that if I can get close to these guys, I can take on the other regions.
