    Michael,

I just registered and sent you an email so you can hopefully approve me for the solo group.

Let me know that you got the email as I sent it through this site..

    JJ,
You do not have to Join PCA to participate. We will be checking with the other clubs to verify all driver's credentials that we are unfamiliar with.
If we can not verify for some reason we will arrange a check ride.

Thanks Michael, you should have no problem verifying my credentials, just note that I typically register as Johan Altenburg. I was driving with PBOC on Homestead this June.

There is a small glitch for some registering if new when your car selection comes up. No big thing. But a rep called 'Josh" called me up to help clarify things. WHAT A NICE FELLOW! If he is a representation of what PCA is all about, then I am DOUBLY looking forward to the event. I will most likely join PCA even though I dont have to! I wish more outfits would be as engaging as Josh. How refreshing! I am so pleased. Thank you.

    Wow,

Thanks for your kind words with regard to Josh. I have copied him on this response to you.
Josh is a great guy, He is a volunteer like the rest of us. We do this because we love it, but the positive reinforcement from participants is always great to hear. I hope that you find the rest of us to be as enjoyable to work with and our event to be a positive experience.

Thanks again for the positive feed back it is definitely appreciated.

Hello everyone, a quick heads-up on the garages for the July 24th PCA event ... Tech inspection will be in garage #18. Provided it's OK with Michael Grant, we will be reserving garages #22-25 for TrackWeekend.com members. We have between 16 and 20 TW cars/members participating - SPACE WILL BE LIMITED. PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY TO CLAIM YOUR TW GARAGE. We will have a banner up, organizers will be wearing black & red shirts, and you can look for the TW decals on the cars as well.

Sean, following Michael's advice, I will NOT admit my car has been modified. It may not look or sound stock, but rest assured i have not installed a supercharger on my car. If anything, it is hampered by the weight of it's driver and the only reason I lap faster than my peers is because of my talent and size of my BALLS! Thank you very much... I can't wait till Saturday... :-)

Looking like a 40% chance of rain... Not my idea of a good first time track day... But I'll just keep positive thoughts... no rain, no rain, no rain...

For those of you driving Homestead for the first time, your street tires will do just fine in the rain (they do on the highway, right?). Yes, it will suck a little to drive in the rain, but you will be a better driver, and you will learn faster, trust me. The wet surface will accentuate the small mistakes you make (dry pavement is more forgiving). Regardless, we're going to have a great time out there. It can't rain ALL day, can it? Juan's stock Camaro will be out there, so why not us?

You're damn right I'll be out there, since I'm running a stock car on stock tires! Besides, rain teaches you car control. If you can be fast in the rain, you'll fly in the dry!

Juans right But let me ask something serious for a change!!
If you go off in the rain do you still have to wear the John Deer hat for the day or do you get a by????

All good comments about the rain.
One other note we run with windows down for safety and access in an accident. First timers on track just keep it safe and do not push the envelope.
We will run rain or shine provided the corner workers are not in danger from lightning and provided that we are not actually experiencing tropical storm conditions or worse.
Rain is the great equalizer and offers a good opportunity to learn the finesse part of driving.

I think it will provide some really great learning, at least for me, so I'm all for it. I'm thinking I should get some anti-fog for the helmet visor, and also get a ton of rainX on the windsheild.

I have two sets of tires to choose from, which one would you guys go with in steady rain- very new R888s (three heat cycles on them) or my street tires (Falken Ziex somethings, a bit over half worn)?

    Posted July 21, 2010 at 2:44 PM
  • Juan Gomez
    Juan Gomez

Mark, in my opinion, with rain you won't be able to get any heat in the R888's. Your street tires are going to offer better water dispersion to help with hydroplaning. I'll be running on Pirelli Pzero street tires myself.

Guys trust me, it will not rain! I bought a set for Hankook street tires for the rain about 6 months ago since Hoosier R6s are not fun in the rain. I have lugged them in the back of the truck for the last 6-7 weekends I have run with NASA, HOD, etc. and havent used them once, though it is obvious had I left them at home, it would of rained. Rest assured that I will bring my rain tires this Saturday which should steer the weather away.

Please don't feel sorry though, as the job is north of Hamburg, Germany and I have one word to say.........A U T O B A H N !!!!!!!! I'll let you know what terminal velocity on a rental VW Golf Turbo Diesel is when I get back! Have a ball and stay safe and don't forget to point the little guy bye. What a difference a day makes! Just a day ago I was feeling all "Blue" given the predicted rain and my run classification, but between God and the good folks at PCA (like Christal), the outlook is much brighter. Now it appears that nasty storm system will have blown through by the time I line up my stock Exige on the Yellow grid to chase that stock Camaro owned and driven by that fast and lovable Hispanic dude.

Word on the street is that we are looking to do a bar-b-que during the "Dinner Break" - which for the Yellow run group is effectively from 5 - 8pm (awesome schedule). Is this true, Carlos? If so, what can we all bring besides NO beer? If we arent doing the bar-b-que, then what should we do for food during the 3 hour respite? In that amount of time, we could all blast up to that great little seafood joint next to the Best Western.

Hey Jim, I hope you're bring some rain tires, cause those slicks aren't going to help you catch a stock Camaro in the wet! I believe the BBQ is a go, and I'm bring some hot dogs & buns with some chips...

NO rain. Storm has passed. I am snug in the Travelodge in Florida City right now. They have flat screen TVs now and a special coupon rate of less than 60 bucks. I have Marios in my GPS for Brunch man yanna! C U there or B square.
Any one have some spare stock or any spare E46 lug bolts? I forgot my spares. Could I bowwow 10? It would help to have 2 3mm spacers or even 5 to 6mm spacers. Awesome. RED M3 CONVERTIBLE. The ONLY one AFAIK. At least I remembered my tech sheet!

Oh, yeah. Stop by if you want to see an AA stage 1.5 HKS Super Charger install. Not like a turbo, but linear boost for the track. This is NOT a monster, just a little boost that makes it more interesting. Very tractable. The car drives the same except I expect better LOW end and mid range coming OUT of a turn.
It made my exhaust louder and the car SOUNDS cool. I hopefully will be on par with a coupe now. The verts are pretty portly and down on power because of excess weight.

I thought the scheduling was interesting but it turned out to be a good time. The night driving was worth dealing with certain of the idiosyncracies of the event. I personally didn't find any of the logistical issues more burdensome than a NASA or PBOC event. Thanks again Goldcoast PCA!

Any day at the track is a good day regardless of track, but the same can not be said about the driving club. There was way too much red tape , what is meant to be a relaxing and fun day driving our cars turns out to be more frustrating and time consuming than it needs to be. I think most of us have other things to do than to have an affiliated shop tech our cars before the event. Then having the car tech again why? If we can not make sure that our cars are in good condition to be on the track, perhaps driving is not for us. And our days of being baby sat are long over with. Driving meeting are essential and needed, but dragging and repeating yourself endlessly is not. Then the endless amount of time waiting prior to driving. As much has 4 hours between session. There were only 3 groups so why have only 2 sessions of 20mn and 2 of 25mn. I want to drive not spend 4 hours starring at an empty track. And certainly not spend 10 hours at the track and drive only 90 minutes.
